Cheadle Unite -  Outline Summary

The ‘Cheadle Unite’ action group (formed 10th Dec 09) aims to raise awareness of the proposed developments in Cheadle and promote action for the benefit of the town.

The group was derived from a call to residents in the East of Cheadle (Primarily East of Tean road from Oakamoor road in the North East down to Rakeway Road in the south East) by Karen Harrop of Rockingham Drive, to tackle new development proposals on Cheadle East.

The immediate focus of the group WAS to tackle those proposals directed on the East of Cheadle

outlined as sections 6 & 7 of the new strategic plan for the area presented by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.

We only had up to 22nd Jan 2010 (few weeks) to lodge a representation regarding this proposal. That Period has ended and the following text is historical. for the latest please refer to the NEWS section.

The left map has been provided by SMDC. The right map shows areas on Cheadle East under consideration.

The right map was only obtained after a resident applied for more details under the 'Freedom of Information Act' and received the document around the 6th January 2010 (Produced with permission of Ordnance Survey on behalf of HMSO).

Areas 6 & 7 are NEW broad proposals that affect not just the east and properties directly connected to the proposed development, but all residents that use the current road network facilities and work places, high schools shops, parking and infrastructure in and around the town. Housing development plans could place an estate anywhere in the area surrounding the ringed numbers. The total developments proposed for Cheadle is a massive 1500 Houses (3000+ Cars?) for a small rural town with a population of around 12500.

Concerns include:

Action is needed quickly, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council have only issued 7 weeks consultation between 7th Dec and 22nd Jan 2010  for Representations to be made.
