2015 April: Parliamentary Candidate Statements May 2015
Sam Hale (Labour)
Thanks for getting in touch.
My comment:
“Whilst there are national housing targets forced upon us, local councils have a duty to build homes for the future. However, this doesn’t mean that local authorities should be forced to allow developers to build on Greenfield sites, or without the necessary infrastructure attached. Labour in North Staffordshire has shown that by working together, by promoting brownfield sites in Stoke before greenfield sites elsewhere, we can protect our towns and villages.
Communities like ours in Cheadle are under threat by the National Planning Policy Framework, which ties the hands of local councillors who want to refuse bad applications. We’ve seen only in Baldwin’s Gate, heading Newcastle way, how 100s of objections from local residents and refusal from their local council went completely undermined by Planning Inspectors. I find it outrageous that local democracy and opinion can be pushed to one side.
Living in Cheadle on The Terrace, one of many traffic bottlenecks in the town, I completely appreciate the need to bring these large planning proposals to the public awareness, so that we as a community can scrutinise the effects on our neighbourhoods. Cheadle Unite have done a fantastic job in doing this, and I completely support their aims.”
If there’s anything I can do, please let me know.
Cheers,
Sam
